My family has been invited for iftar for the first fast by my wife’s friend. The friend is a close one but she lives about an hour away. Her other friends are invited.
I am hesitant to accept it simply because the time it will take to travel. I feel like it is waste of time. We will most likely miss taraweeh because how far it is and how tired we will be.
My wife thinks we should accept the invitation. We can pray fard together at the house.

Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Ambre Dore starts off quite spicy and resinous with pungent, animalic oud and a salty undertone. While the oud was short-lived, it was a dirty, dark, and earthy oud that may feel “too much” for those who aren’t full-on oud fans. The middle was marked by smoke and leather, and then after that, it was primarily a range of amber, which seemed on the powdery, musky side to me. The notes in the fragrance are:
- top notes: styrax, geranium, sage
- heart notes: amber, oud, coriander, saffron
- base notes: sandalwood, vetiver, myrrh
It opened with a dry, resinous spice–dark, chewy, balsamic–that lasted a minute before it grew earthy, salty, and animalic. That initial burst of spice and resinous sweetness disappeared, totally overrun by dark, dank oud reminiscent of hay, leather, and mucking out horse stalls and the sweat that drips down one’s brow from putting in the work.
Rich, spiced amber teased along the edges, trying to merge and soften the oud, and the two danced with each other; it didn’t feel like a fight where they clashed but rather they were trying to compromise and come together as a unit. For those that started mentally backing away from this fragrance because of the pungent oud, the amber envelopes the oud in a close hug within 10 minutes. The oud then added a layer of earthy, almost medicinal, backing to the amber.
Given 15 minutes to develop on my skin, Ambre Dore was darker; smoky leather, touch of coriander, and the beginnings of spiced resins emerged. It became a part-musky, part-powdery amber with leathery undertones by the end of the first hour of wear. The leather felt cooler, drier, and smokier for the next hour before fading into a drydown of slightly musky amber, subtle sweetness, and faint woods. As the drydown went on, the amber became less musky and a touch sweeter.
Application
For testing, I used 1/3 of a 0.7ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise.
Longevity
It lasted for eight hours until it was a skin-scent and about 12 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate with the sillage dropping faster than the projection after three hours of wear.
Personal Thoughts
I’ve found that I like a clearer amber rather than one that is powdery and/or musky; not that I’m adverse, merely that it’s not my preference. The punchy oud was a surprise in this one, too, and totally caught me off-guard–at first I was totally thinking, “Wow, this isn’t an amber fragrance at all!” but alas, the amber did win out without having to work too hard.

Thank you in advance for those who might be able to guide me in the right direction. Since 2015, I have always been dedicated to accepting and learning Islam. For me, not only did everything I read and listen to about Islam resonate but it made the most sense to me. Growing up in a rural part of The United States however I have no access to a local mosque or Imam where I can seek answers to my questions and undertake my Shahada. I took my Shahada from someone in the UK with an Iman I connected to a few years ago but since then have lost connection to them. There were also many hurdles considering the major time difference from the US. My ask here is if there is anyone or anywhere I could go to in which can help me take my Shahada officially and guide me in daily prayer and other routines so that way I can be more comfortable doing it on my own and motivate me to have more discipline. I understand many of the fundamentals and pillars of Islam but a mentor or fellow revert brother would be awesome considering the circumstance. My hopes is in the next few months I’ll move closer to the city where I know there are mosques I can participate at but meanwhile I’d like to really engage in Islam especially during the Ramadan season.
If there are any other Muslim brothers (between 21-30 would be great since around my age) that are either already Muslim and willing to help or those who are recent reverts or considering Islam to revert to willing to network and help me out?

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.
From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).
The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable. They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.
The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply. Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter. They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).
