Below we'll see that one of the subsidiary aims of Hijab is to be a symbol of free women as outlined by the classical Fuqaha, a sign of respect for the girls. Until the secular and pseudo-progressive Muslims began to degrade its status and pressured the girls to abandon it and tried to bring them down to their levels.
Abu Qulabah said: Indeed Umar Ibn Khattab (r) did not allow a slave girl to be veiled in his Khilafa, and he said: "Verily the veil is for the free women"
And in another narration: "Expose your head and do not resemble the free women"
Ibn Qudamah comments on this that it was unanimous (ijma): "And this shows that it was well known to the companions without any opposition"
Ibn Taymiyyah further clarifies: "The Hijab is meant for the free women as opposed to the slave girls, as was the way for the Believers during the time of the Prophet (saw) and his rule".
Al Qurtubi says in his Tafsir:"i.e for the free, so that they don't blend with the slave girls, and if they knew (this) it would not be met with the slightest opposition realizing the great status of the free Believers"
Even spiritually: A believer is not shackled in the prison of his/her desires and her hijab symbolizes this too. While the nonmuslims are imprisoned in their kufr and desires and they also indirectly symbolize this as they are vehemently opposed to the Hijab (with islamophobes going as far as to beat up girls wearing the hijab).
Girls, never be ashamed of the Hijab, Allah blessed you with great honor through this
