"Shaytaan" means devil, a descriptive term that describes a thing as evil or annoying. That's why 6:112 tells us there are devils (shayateen) of humans and jinn. It's a description of a characteristic of the person who is being described as a "shaytaan."
With regards to Iblis, Allah always denotes him specifically in the Qur'an by saying the devil (ash-shaytaan). Like saying Jesus was a prophet (rasool), but the prophet (ar-rasool) refers to Muhammad .
I know it's a nitpick, but I believe we should be accurate. Am I wrong about this?
