Hi

I’m an American convert as of a few years ago.

My local mosque was closed during part of the lockdowns & reopened a year ago. I’ve attended several times — almost every Friday.

So far I have not met anyone — the sermon is okay — honestly a bit boring and hard to hear — but I feel like I get something from it most times.

What I’m surprised at is that there doesn’t seem to be any social aspect —- it’s sort of sad to have been going so long and have no opportunity to meet people.

At my old Christian church everyone knew everyone and new people were welcomed and there were many meals and activities etc. I’d really love to meet other Muslims and make friends / connections and talk about religion and such.
Going to the masjid is a decent time commitment & I leave work for it — I honestly don’t look forward to it and am thinking of attending less. I feel like watching videos on YouTube is more effective usually.

Is this normal or is my mosque unusual? I’m in an area of the US with few Muslims — so there isn’t another option for a different mosque.

Overall I feel very alone on my journey.
