Hi everyone.
I live in Kingston, ON, Canada. I'm a secular guy. Last winter a new family moved in. When I started putting up my Christmas lights (I love Christmas lights), the guy across the street also started. We sorta had a competition- I'd put something new up, and the next day so did this new resident. It went on for about a week, like something out of a movie.
The week before Christmas, we got hit w/ about 6" of snow. I was good b/c my wife gave me a new snowblower for Christmas. I saw my new neighbor struggling w/ his, so I finally went over to say hi.
Turns out this 'Christmas Light Competitor' is a Palestinian named Sammy who just moved to Kingston from the Toronto area 3 1/2 hrs away. He & his wife have 4 kids, and b/c an Elementary and HS are just a block away they fell in love w/ this area. He's a good shit- hard, HARD working guy, handy and all around decent.
He's also a Muslim who put up Christmas lights for pretty much the same reason I did. "My kids like it, and it makes the neighborhood prettier." He took his down after Jan 6th. I thought that was cool as anything.
So, this Ramadan, he put up a couple of banners, and put up some lights again.
So! This old fart (I'm 63) decided that if he was cool with the 'Christmasy Stuff', I dragged out some lights and fired 'em up for 30 days.
All through Ramadan his lights shone well wishes, and my lights returned the favor each night.
Now here we are, with Ramadan drawing to a close and I got a question for you:
My wife bought a lovely plant and box of chocolates (kids, remember? lol) . I have them all wrapped up, and am wondering...
- Should I give it to him now or wait until 'Eid' comes around on Monday?
- Got any good messages I can give him on the card I'll make up? I mean, at Christmas we say 'Merry Christmas' or 'Joyeux Noel' or 'Happy Holidays'- is there a phrase that's used for Ramadan? I don't want to offend, y'know?
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
Peace.
Jim

Nasomatto Black Afgano Extrait de Parfum had glimpses into a lot of its notes in the early 15 minutes of wear, but it was mostly dark, earthy, animalic oud with resinous, overripe fruits and little else on my skin. It was more spiced, nutty, and toffee-like early on, along with a more definable raspberry sweetness, but it morphed into something fruity but nothing distinctive to my nose. The notes are listed as:
- top notes: cannabis, green notes
- heart notes: resins, woodsy notes, tobacco, coffee
- base notes: oud, incense
It opened with rich, roasted coffee and dark oud, quickly followed by nutty labdanum and chewy, toffee-like resins that were thick, heady, and woody. It felt like an incredibly dark, rich amber with whispers of oud, earthy, lightly animalic. There were subtle, leathery undertones that spilled through the amber. Within five minutes, a kiss of raspberry sweetness atop a mountain of spiced, resinous amber and oud.
Black Afgano remained mostly an amber and oud mix, where the oud was never at its full, most challenging intensity; instead, it added an earthiness and rounded out the amber and kept it from being as heavily spiced as it was initially. The oud suggested something animalic but nowhere near the barnyard. There was a fleeting whisper of cannabis after 20 minutes that was deep in the background.
I found the oud turned louder over the next two hours with a sweet, fruity element over smoke and spiced amber. The oud continued to be the strongest element in the composition through the drydown–it was rich, resinous, and somewhat animalic and musky. Five hours in, the drydown has slightly more of a smoky quality paired with the fruity sweetness and oud, which was still fairly intense in scent.
Application
For testing, I used 1/2 of a 0.7ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area on my left arm. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as this is also my swatching arm (aka, incredibly parched at any given moment) as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise.
I purchased my sample in January 2022; fragrances are known to be reformulated over their lifetime , so be mindful of when a review was made, e.g. a review from 2010 may not reflect what the same-named perfume smells like in 2022.
Longevity
It lasted for three hours until it was a skin-scent and about 10 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate but dropped within two hours.
Personal Thoughts
Oud with such an intense, sweet and fruity aspect didn’t quite do it for me; I felt like it was too much of the same thing for too long! I was surprised that the oud didn’t shift more throughout the development of the scent.

Walking Home
ILNP Walking Home Holographic Nail Polish ($10.00 for 0.4 oz.) is a deep, bluish-purple with cool undertones with holographic flakes and finer violet shimmer throughout. It had a smooth, fluid consistency that wasn’t too thick or too thin, so it applied evenly to my nail and felt easy to control along the edges.
Per the brand, it has its maximum coverage in two to three coats. In the swatches, I’ve applied two coats using Deborah Lipmann Gel Lab Pro base and top coats, which was sufficient for full coverage. I wore this shade for 10 days and had minor tip wear and no chips.

Formula Overview
$10.00/0.4 oz. - $25.00 Per Ounce
The brand has several finishes, though some overlap, and they primarily have polishes with some shimmer to them, which often includes holographic, duochromatic, or multichromatic shimmer and effects.
The majority of shades specifically list how many coats are necessary for full coverage, which typically ranged from two to three, though a few went as high as four coats; the jelly finish, as expected, tended to be the sheerest. I found that what was stated was typically accurate to opacity performance. Most shades needed two coats for even (and/or opaque) coverage.
More metallic shades--often multichromes--had barely visible brush strokes from a normal viewing distance (as compared to a close-up photo, which is magnified). An additional coat sometimes made these even less noticeable, and then a good layer of top coat further reduced the visibility.
Both the holographic and multichrome shades presented with visible shifts and even dispersion of holographic shimmer/sparkle. Some of the multichrome shades had less contrasting shifts, so the effect wasn't as strong head-on (e.g. shifting between blue to violet to warmer purple) but readily visible just glancing at my nails resting on the desk and so on. Many shades had finer pearl/shimmer, which danced and caught the light beautifully but ensured a smooth texture and easier removal.
The formula tended to have a light to light-medium viscosity to it, which ensured fluid, more even coverage without being thick, goopy, or so thin that it dried down as one applied it to nail. Some of the black-based shimmer shades seemed to be a little thinner relative to the jelly or multichrome finishes. Most shades self-leveled and hid my more ridged nails, though a good base and top coat would be ideal. Overall, the polishes were smooth and easy to work with, while the brush itself wasn't too wide nor too narrow, though I had to be most careful working with some of the richer shades on my pinky!
The drying time seemed average; I was able to add a second (and/or third) coat after I had done the other nails on my hand. I would give the Multichromes a little extra time to dry down just to ensure the least visible brush strokes in the end result, though. For the more sparkly and textured shades, like the glitters, I felt like a top coat really helped to bring everything together to give the end result a shiny, plush effect.
Of the shades I've done full wear tests for (about 20 shades at the time of writing the overview), none of them have chipped over the course of a week. I've had minor tip wear across the board with some shades having very minor tip wear at that.
That being said, it's typical for me to have polish last a week or longer on me, though, and I have not personally had issues with finding a formula that wears a week with minor tip wear but no chipping. The primary source of tip wear likely comes from typing on the computer, though I also open small, paper cartons and peel off labels routinely when opening new products (for review).

Morning Rays
ILNP Morning Rays Ultra Holographic Nail Polish ($10.00 for 0.4 oz.) is a medium, rosy mauve base with holographic shimmer and a more pronounced, pink-gold shift at most angles. The consistency was fluid without being too thick, which ensured each coat applied evenly and wasn’t prone to pooling along the edges.
Per the brand, it has its maximum coverage in two to three coats. In the swatches, I’ve applied two coats using Deborah Lipmann Gel Lab Pro base and top coats, and two coats seemed pretty close to full coverage. I wore this shade for 10 days and had minor tip wear and no chips.

In the Clouds
ILNP In the Clouds Holographic Nail Polish ($10.00 for 0.4 oz.) has a pale, lavender base with lighter, warmer gold shimmer throughout that gave it a more metallic finish. There was very fine, less noticeable holographic shimmer throughout. There were faint threads of metallic shimmer that were slightly visible in person, but it wasn’t too noticeable, particularly with a glossier top coat on top. The consistency was thicker and overly fluid for me, so the product didn’t apply as evenly as desired.
Per the brand, it has its maximum coverage in two to three coats. In the swatches, I’ve applied two coats using Deborah Lipmann Gel Lab Pro base and top coats, and a third coat would be necessary for full coverage, but two seemed on the thicker side in my experience. I wore this shade for 10 days and had minor tip wear and no chips.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I don’t think I made any purchases this week. There’s been so much going on personally that I have had to take a bit of a step back professionally to manage everything (more on a mental level).
Weekend plans: I hope to see my parents this weekend for sure, either for lunch or when I bring Winston over to swim in their pool. I’m also hoping to relax a little and try to reassess what I need to get back on track mentally and dive back into things I wasn’t able to get done this week.
Do you have any plans for May? Work, work, and work. That’s what we do around these parts, lol! It’ll be too hot outdoors soon enough to do much other than stay inside. I think we’re going to split Mother’s Day and see hubby’s mom for brunch and my mom for dinner.

Algae
Glaminatrix Algae Matte Pressed Pigment ($7.30 for 0.06 oz.) is a light and bright, yellow-leaning chartreuse paired with a matte finish. It appeared greener in the pan, but applied, it was quite yellow-based to the point where it lost that green coloring.
The texture was soft, moderately powdery, and more prone to sheering out than most shades by the brand, so it was one I’d recommend using over a primer. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading visibly and left a faint stain behind.

Formula Overview

The brand doesn't have any real specific claims on their eyeshadows, but the swatches they showcase show their line of eyeshadows to be pigmented. The exception would be shades classified as "Duochrome Toppers," which have a translucent base, though they are packed with shimmer and tend to show up more opaque as a result (both my in experience as well as in their swatches).
The brand has three primary finishes: matte, foiled, and duochrome topper. The matte eyeshadows, which sometimes are classified as matte pressed pigments, are very pigmented, silky-smooth, and blendable, but they are incredibly powdery in the pan. I was surprised that I didn't get much fallout during application, but there was a lot of excess powder kicked up in nearly every matte shade I tested out even when I tried to use a light touch. I found that the ultra finely-milled formula tended to adhere well to bare skin and was more forgiving of dryness than the average matte eyeshadow.
The foiled eyeshadows are high-shine with soft, more loosely-pressed textures (on the whole) that picked up readily with a dry brush, had good adhesion, and had minimal to light fallout, depending on the shade. The shades were higher shimmer seemed more loosely-pressed, while the shades that yielded more of a metallic sheen/pearly sheen were more firmly-pressed (in comparison).
The duochrome toppers are similar to the foiled eyeshadows, but they had higher sparkle/shimmer in them with a translucent base, so the more it was sheered out, the more translucent it appeared. If one picked up and patted it onto the lid, the effect was fairly pigmented. I had a little bit of fallout during application using this finish dry, so I'd recommend using them with a fingertip or a dampened brush for application.
Overall, the formulas are impressive across the board with only a few shades that were under-performing--and they typically were shades that tend to be harder to get perfect (e.g. matte purple). I enjoyed working with the eyeshadows and putting together looks, as they were easy to work with, delivered on pigmentation and blendability, and wore between eight and nine hours on bare skin.

Glaminatrix Leaf Matte Eyeshadow ($7.30 for 0.06 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark green with subtle, warm olive undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was very powdery in the pan, so it was quite unexpected that it actually applied with full pigmentation, very little fallout and still blended out beautifully. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Field
Glaminatrix Field Matte Pressed Pigment ($7.30 for 0.06 oz.) is a light-medium, chartreuse green with swarmer, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation paired with a smooth, finely-milled texture that was quite powdery in the pan but had little fallout during application and wasn’t prone to sheering out. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

Vine
Glaminatrix Vine Matte Eyeshadow ($7.30 for 0.06 oz.) is a pale, green-leaning aqua with warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow felt almost-cream like to the touch as it was quite finely-milled and smooth, but it was airy and billowed up a lot of excess powder in the pan. The product applied better than anticipated to my lid as it wasn’t prone to fallout or sheering out too readily. It had mostly opaque coverage that stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.
