I was just having an argument and the other side claimed that a husband can forbid his wife from going to school or getting a job. The example I gave is a women wants to go to school to learn English so she can apply for citizenship. Can her husband forbid her and who is in the wrong. I could find a clear answer online. I think that they're mixing culture and religion and claiming it's Islam but I also am not that educated. I just know that Allah forbid people to transgress against others and this would fall under transgression.
