I have been hearing that Al Aqsa is the 3rd holiest mosque. Since the Prophet's Mosque in medina was built as we know it today as a mosque how is it the 2nd holiest mosque? Wouldn't Aqsa be higher in this regard? Is the ranking based on the Qur'an and Sunnah or based on later scholar interpretation?
