What is the difference between خَاتَم [khatam] and خَاتِم [khatim] in meaning?

This is in reference to the two recitation modes of 33:40.
I looked up online dictionaries but can't seem to find the meaning of the later mode.
I've heard khatim means last or final, not seal, but can't seem to find a reference. A reference would be appreciated.
