If someone tells a lie but later the lie turns out as being the truth, is it still a sin?

When someone tells a lie willingly (i.e. he knows x is the case but says y would be the case) but later after he did that it turns out that y is actually the case and he was wrong about x being the case, is it still a sin for him?
