Parent's say in a potential spouse?

Selam aleikum all! This is my first time posting here so I hope advice posts are allowed.

Some background: I've been talking to a Muslim guy and he's come to meet my family three times. Last time we got into talking about the degrees of faith and my parents questioned why he calls himself Muslim when there's no actions involved to prove his devotion to Allah. He bluntly told my parents he is a Muslim, believes he is a good person, will treat me well, but does not see himself practicing more but he would like our children raised the way I was.

I come from a pretty practicing Muslim family, all the ladies wear hijab (except me). I'm really in love with this guy, also from a Muslim family but they all are non practicing (do not fast, no one wears hijab, etc.).

For this reason, and they the guy is not 'wealthy enough' my parents do not want to support my decision and will not agree to meet his parents or allow the marriage. Their main concern is that he will not better my iman and actually pull me further from Allah.

What do you all advise from an Islamic standpoint?
