I'm currently trying to research the djinn, shayatin, and ghouls, and this verse of the Quran is as enigmatic as it important to learning about them. From what I've gathered, the shayatin loiter near heaven in order to overhear its secrets, but they are chased off by "meteors". While most shayatin are simply scared off from the "meteors" not all of them were so lucky. Shayatin once known as the Marid were killed by the "meteors" and became the undead necrophagic ghouls.
I'm American, so I have little to know knowledge of the Quran, but does it elaborate anymore on the nature of these "meteors"? Are they actual meteors? Comets? Allah tossing the stars themselves at the shayatin? Divine balls of energy?
I also keep getting conflicting info on whether it was the shayatin who were listening in on heaven, or rather the djinn who were doing the same. Some sources say the djinn were incapable of eavesdropping on heaven like the shayatin were, but other sources say it was indeed the djinn who were listening in.
I sincerely hope this post doesn't come off as offensive to lifelong members of Islam. I'm inquisitive about foreign religions, and I think hearing from members of the religion itself rather than the internet might be better for more accurate information.
