(Egyptian/Egyptian-American feedback particularly appreciated)
What are the political and theological differences between Qutbists and Salafis? I know that Qutbists see themselves as "modernizers" and Salafis see themselves as "anti-modernists" but I don't really see any different beyond that. Qutbists seem more "suit-and-tie" compared to Salafis, in a sense, but in reading literature by groups like Hamas and groups like Hayat Tahrir as-Sham I don't see much different. It's been like... 10 years since I took a class about Islamist political movements and I lost my textbooks about those class, and Google doesn't seem to help with finding a clear answer.
ELI5 the theological and political diffences so that a convert like myself whose memory is fuzzy from being out of undergrad for so long can tell which is which.
