Our beloved Prophet SAW said to us that smiling is an act of charity.
How true he is and how wise.
If you think about it what use or benefit is it to smile, very little to the smiler, in fact it’s easier not to smile. It’s actually more easier to let your face rest and walk around all day with relaxed facial muscles, but let’s be honest most people don’t have pretty resting faces, that why it has a nick name.
So really the reason smiling is an act of charity is because others benefit from your smile much more than you do. When we smile deliberately, we make a conscious effort, regardless of the experience we may of had earlier that day or even a few moments prior, regardless of those turbulent emotions, those nagging anxieties, those shameful memories... we smile.
We don’t get much from our smile, but it affects others by brightening up their day. It plants a little seed of positivity and makes other feel happy. That’s why smiling is an act of charity. SubanAllah, all praise belongs to Him, Lord of the worlds.
