Assalam alaykum, brothers and sisters. I've got an odd question.

I converted to Islam 9 months ago and have always wondered something:

Where did the concept of rakat at different prayers at different times of the day emerge? Why is Asr 4 rakat, and Maghrib 3 rakat, for example? Is there a Qur'anic basis for this, or is it all the Sunnah?

Any info would be appreciated!
