Have the scholars said anything about the rise of mass shootings and what we as an ummah can do to protect ourselves?

Do we even have a group of moderate scholars that most of us trust for guidance?

I know there have been more violent times in history, but our modern era is unique in the speed and spread of information, so much so that the whole world is probably feeling worried, since this "craze" of nationalism and violence seems to be spreading everywhere
