For those who have gone to a sharia tribunal for legal assistance, what was it like?

I am aware that in some countries (including Australia), there are unofficial (unofficial as far as the law of the land in Australia, the UK and USA go, I mean), sharia tribunals, which Muslims go to to settle matters such as disputes over inheritance, custody, divorce, etc. I am aware that how they rule depends on their interpretation of Islamic law, but I was curious as what it was like going through this process?
