Hello all, I want to know what you guys think about muslims' duty towards amar maruf nahi munkar, which translates as enjoining good and forbidding wrong.

To what extent this should/could be done?

I've seen people do some questionable actions while quoting this justification, like:

  • raiding restaurants that are operating dyring the day in Ramadhan, for facilitating people sinning by not fasting

  • raiding unmarried couples in hotels or other secluded place, for khalwah and suspicion of zina

  • raiding cafes and restaurants and taking their alcoholic beverages, even though they get license for it, for facilitating sins

  • etc.

They quote this hadith:

From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri r.a., he said, "I heard the Messenger sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said," Whoever amongst you see munkar, then let him change it with his hand (power), if he is unable, then with his tongue (advised), and if he is not able to as well, then with his heart (was not happy and do not agree), and thus it is the least of weak faith. '"

And in their mind, they are the good guys who try to change munkar things using their hand/power, which is the best kind of amar maruf nahi munkar.

What do you guys think about this? Is this allowed by Islam, or not?

If it's not, what do you think is the best argument to convince them that they're in the wrong?

Thanks.
