Imam Muhammad al-Shaybani [749-850] was asked:
A man who lives in the East enters into a relationship with a woman who lives in the West merely through a letter. The distance between these 2 towns cannot be traversed under 6 months, but the wife gives birth 6 months after this letter (shortest period of pregnancy). Is this child legitimate?
He replied that the child would be legitimate. When asked how is this possible, he answered, “Yes! We do believe in miracles of the 'awliya!”
