Long story short I want to know who is occupying Jersusalem in the end times. I have been researching about a bunch of other stuff in islamic eschatology but I have come across a contradiction which I hope a knowledgeable muslim may answer inshallah:
(when dajjal arrives)Then Al-Madinah will be shaken with its people three times, and no hypocrite, male or female, will be left, all will come out to him. Thus it will be cleansed of impurity just as the bellows cleanses the iron of dross. And that day will be called the Day of Deliverance.' "Umm Sharik bint Abi 'akar said: 'O Messenger of Allah, where will the Arabs be that day?' He said: 'On that day they will be few, and most of them will be in Baitul-Maqdis (Jerusalem), and their leader will be a righteous man[this is clearly talking about the Mahdi]. When their leader has stepped forward to lead them in subh prayer, 'Eisa bin Maryam will come down to them. [how? wasn't explained in this hadith] Their leader will step backwards so that 'Eisa can come forward and lead the people in prayer, but 'Eisa will place his hand between his shoulders and say to him: "Go forward and pray, for the Iqamah was given for you." Then their leader will lead them in prayer. When he has finished, 'Eisa (as), will say: "Open the gate." So they will open it and behind it will be Dajjal with seventy thousand Jews, each of them carrying an adorned sword and wearing a greenish cloak. When Dajjal looks at him, he will start to melt as salt melts in water. He will run away, and 'Eisa (as), will say: "I have only one blow for you, which you will not be able to escape!" He will catch up with him at the eastern gate of Ludd, and will kill him [Sunan Ibn Majah 4077]
This confuses me because it clearly says that the Iman of Bait Al Maqdis at the time is Iman Mahdi AT JERSUSALEM on the day of deliverance but then the hadith proceeds to imply Isa AS comes down from this location (jersusalem). But this Hadith says something totally different:
"Allah will send `Isa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary) who will descend at the white minaret in the eastern side of Damascus . . . He will then search for Dajjal until he will catch hold of him at the gate of Ludd (village near Jerusalem), and will kill him." [Muslim].
This hadith clearly says Isa AS will descend from Syria.
The first makes it clear that the dajjal is behind the gate, sees Isa AS, gets very scared and runs away, but this second implies he knows Isa AS is there and he is running to jersusalem. One of the hadiths says that they will open a 'gate' and another does not. One says that Mahdi is the Iman of Jerusalem, but the other says he is in Syria when Isa AS appears. One says the army of dajjal is waiting for them outside this 'gate' in Jersusalem, implying this place is now a fortress....and another says Syria. So clearly something isn't adding up here. I must also state the first hadith I gave is 'da'if' but I have no idea of the authenticity of the second but since it is 'muslim' it must be sahih.
To clarify once more:
1) I wish to know which mosque Isa AS descends from for certain.
2) I want to know if muslims or non-muslims are in Jerusalem at the time.
3) I want to know exactly why Mahdi is not in Jersusalem at the time, along with his followers and not praying at masjid al aqsa (perhaps in preparation for a war?)
4) I wish to know the authenticity of the last hadith I gave (sahih, da'if etc)
Any help from knowledgeable muslims is appreciated.
