I live in Brunei and the government will be rolling out Shariah law in April. I view religion as a personal thing and i detest enforcement of it. Enforcement can breed feelings of resentment and repression. And would mean the prayers arent sincere. IMO it means we fear what our fellow man would do to us more than we fear god. Brunei is already in a weak economic position and the government is allocating more towards religious dissemination than economic development. Its frankly got us all worried for our future. The ministry of religious affairs is heavy handed and rolled out rules like no restaurants are to be opened during ramadhan regardless of muslim or not. During friday prayers all businesses are to close for 2 hours. There are reports of tourists being stranded without food or water because everything shuts down.
