This might be a weird question but I can’t seem to find an answer. A friend of mine whose family is strictly catholic has been learning about Islam, fasts during ramadan, refrains from eating pork / doing drugs / drinking and is currently learning how to pray. He hasn’t converted yet because he worries about how his situation at home will change. His family can’t know because they’re strictly against Islam. His converted friend gifted him Islamic books and a prayer rug a few months ago and his dad found them, threw them away and scolded him for it. He worries about how he’ll have to make sure they eat halal meat at home without his family wondering where the meat is coming from and why he’s suddenly buying meat on his own. Openly converting will cause his home situation to become dangerous since his father can be abusive. He can’t live on his own because of his financial situation. He’s fasting this Ramadan and is learning how to pray, but he wants to know if his fasts and prayers are valid since he hasn’t converted yet. He is thinking of secretly converting this Ramadan In Shaa Allah but his situation makes it difficult. What is the best thing to do? Are his prayers and fasts valid as long as he hasn’t converted yet?
