Yesterday there was a tragic incident, an attack, on our Muslim brothers and sisters in Ethiopia.
There was an attack on the Muslim community in the city Gondar, Amhara Region. During a funeral of well respected Sheikh Kamal Legas there was an attack on the crowd. An explosive device was thrown into the crowd causing havoc and chaos. The incident has been reported to be over a conflict between the Orthodox Church beside the burial compound as there were a disagreement over which material belonged to which group. A group of extreme christians carried out this attack leaving over 20 people killed and many more injured.
Qurans and mosques were burned. They were setting buildings, including private properties, on fire. When the Muslim civilians wanted to put the fire out, they were threatened to be killed if they tried to intervene. As they were setting peoples homes on fire, they were not allowed to leave as they were inside. The fire department were not allowed to intervene either. Many people were arrested on the day, most being innocent people affected by the horrific attacks.
The day after (27th April) the authorities went around searching in the neighborhoods and homes accusing the residents of causing problems yesterday. They have been arrested despite any evidence of them being involved, they have been simply arrested due to them being Muslim. Majority of the people that have been arrested are woman.
The government has said that they will bury the deceased people. The victims family will not be able to bury their own family members who passed away in these tragic terror attacks. They were only allowed to wash and cloth the deceased but not bury them.
These attacks have not been condemned or highlighted in the media. This is a grave injustice towards any human life.
