Assalamualaikum,
There have been times where I’ve seen people mention that Indonesia is a Muslim country, when it is, in fact, not. It is a Muslim majority country - Indonesia has 6 official religions and Islam is the most commonly practiced one. The country does not operate on Sharia law except in Aceh, a semi-autonomous province, and even that is a pretty recent development.
As an Indonesian, I just want to clarify that because I’ve gotten comments from other Muslims criticizing Indonesia as a “failed Muslim country” because a lot of the Muslims there are not practicing Islam correctly and the government does not implement the Sharia law properly. There are devout Muslims in Indonesia as well.
If there are other Indonesians in this sub, feel free to add on or even correct me.
