As salamu-alaykum. I am a Muslim man (23) and yesterday I broke up with my catholic girlfriend because of religion. We've been dating for 2 years but my religious family strictly imposed to me that I should only be marrying Muslim women. I didn't introduce her to my parents and she did not do the same as well because her parents also want her to be married to a man that practices the same religion.
I like to think that we are still young and that we may enjoy being together more, but at the same time I want to be planning/saving up for my future with someone that would most likely become my wife.
On the side of my family, I know the hope of them accepting her to be my wife is very little. But I want to know what does the holy Qur'an say about this.
Are Muslim men allowed to be married to non-Muslim women? or does she have to convert into Islam for us to be married?
Do our parents have to right to decline or not accept a partner that we desire? As I was told once that my parents would not attend my wedding if I were to be married to a non-Muslim woman.
In the way of Islam, Is there any way around this situation I am in?
I really love this girl and it hurts to see her crying/hurting because of our break up.
Please enlighten me with this, any reply not answering the above question but is related to this topic is greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the bad grammar, English is not my first language. Posting this on my dump account.
