The study of the teachings of the Prophet (Saw)shows us that he warned, in a surprisingly precise way, against the current rise in power of religious fanaticism.
1400 years ago, he predicted that Islam would one day be just a name, the Qur'ran, more than a word, and that "mosques would be beautifully adorned but devoid of faith" (Mishkatul Masabih). In these troubled times, the spirit of Islam would be no more, and religion would become an empty shell reduced to its rituals. Corrupt imams would cause conflict, he added.
And this is all too true: in some Muslim countries, extremist imams preach division and hatred.
His description does not stop there: he also talks about terrorist organizations like Daesh. When dissension reigned, "a bunch of immature and stupid young people" would emerge and would want to turn the faith away. Their speech would be seductive but they would commit atrocities. Faced with their escalation of prayers and fasting, other Muslims would cut a poor figure. They would understand nothing of the spirit of the Qur'an and would only regurgitate carefully chosen passages with a view to recruiting new members. For the Prophet (Saw), these groups would be "the dregs of creation".
And if all this is not enough, the caliph Ali (As) (fourth successor of the Prophet) tells in the book Kitab al-Fitan that these people would have long hair and would carry black flags. They would have "hearts as hard as iron" and would come together in ... State (Ashab al Dawla). Mention is also made of broken alliances, lies, and names evoking their cities, such as that of the "caliph" of "the Islamic State", Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.
The Prophet described these evil beings in detail to warn Muslims, and to warn them to beware and fight them. "Whoever rises up against them is better than them in the sight of Allah," he proclaimed.
Keep this in mind. When Daesh members kill in the name of Islam, when they claim to follow the Quran or wreak havoc on Ramadan, remember that the Prophet explicitly told us about these impostors, and expects us to eradicating them.
The only ones who refuse to remember are the members of Daesh, their sympathizers and the Islamophobes who want to make the whole world believe that Daesh is the legitimate representative of Islam. But those who think a little will perceive the wisdom of the Prophet and stand united against extremism and ignorance.
