Assalamu Alaikum. We should remind ourselves of the rights our neighbors have over us, and how much care Allah has taught us to have for the well being of our neighbors. For those with the means to do so, some websites like GoFundMe have a 'near you' section to help you find your neighbors in need.

Assalamu Alaikum brothers and sisters.

As many of us know, our neighbors have rights over us that we are obligated to fulfill. But sadly, many of us live in very socially isolated communities where we do not have a strong enough bond with our neighbors to feel comfortable offering help, and in turn our neighbors do not feel comfortable asking us for help either.

I encourage you to reach out to your neighbors and establish this bond. This will not only help them but it will also help you, as strong social bonds like this help keep communities and individuals happy and healthy.

But in the meantime (while you are establishing that bond), try to use technology to help you fulfill that obligation. For example gofundme.com has a feature where they show you gofundme campaigns near you (control f "Find a GoFundMe near you" on their website home page). Often times the campaigns listed here are very, very close to my home, so this feature is quite accurate. Donate what you can (donations can be made 100% anonymously), and you can also send a message of encouragement and compassion so they feel less alone in their struggle (this can provide a lot of mental comfort to someone struggling).

I find as our societies are becoming more and more socially isolated this very important part of our deen is becoming more and more ignored. But if a few of us start integrating this into our lives, it will inspire our neighbors to do the same and we can help ourselves and our communities this way.
