Many modern Muslims believe that there's nothing wrong celebrating birthdays. Some say it's a cultural thing, some say it's good for checking out how are your family/friends of you haven't contacted them in a while.

This is what I believe. I don't to live my life by the man made culture. I don't want to check out how's someone only a single day and forget them for the rest of the 364 days. Did prophet Muhammad celebrate his birthday? No, and so did his companions. If you look at the origin of the celebration of birthdays, it started with pagans and people living in the absolute winters where you had to prepare for the winters the rest of the seasons. It was a luck of people survived the winters. So as to celebrate surviving each year, they used to eat and drink and gather on their birthday like a feast.

Prophet said "Those who follow others are one of them."

Anyone who adds anything other than the message of Allah is an innovation in Islam.

Because of all this reasons, I don't like celebrating and wishing on birthdays and this makes me look rude to others.
