As-salamu alaykum. I'm a new (and not wholly abiding, if I'm being honest) Muslim. I'm slowly learning how to adapt to this way of life. It's difficult due to a complete lack of religious upbringing and a completely "Western" ideology. Islam speaks to me, as does the Arabic script and language. Already Allah (SWT) hears my inner voice and provides to me what I need to follow the straight path. I spoke to an Imam a couple of years ago, but never returned to the masjid. Now I have fear that he will not speak to me after my absence. I have questions though, and hopefully you all can help me.

I've read that some scholars view music as haram, while others look to the content of music to determine whether music is haram. What is your understanding?

For those that are from the US, born and raised with other ideology, how did you move past your predilection towards such things as bacon for breakfast and pepperoni pizza? How did you learn to cut those things which are forbidden from your life?

Seeing as I work on an ambulance, how do I pray at work? Does Allah forgive us time to pray our salah when we are late?

Lastly, does Allah forgive us after we've abandoned the straight path and yet yearn to return?

Thank you all so much for your help and guidance.
