Today i saw a brother I didn’t speak to for a long time. He said he joined some group where they do dhikr together and he invited me. I went and saw to my surprise that the other brothers were dressed exactly the same like the brother. It was like an uniform except no insignia or something. So i asked him what’s up with that and he told me he joined a group where he took some kind of oath to the peer. I won’t mention the name of the person (they refer to him as shaykh) but it was a but cult like.
There were other brothers speaking about how this shaykh was at two places at the same time in makkah and how this was some kind of wonder allah gave him. I later realized they weren’t paying attention that i overheard them but it was a bit weird.
The evening went on and the brother asked if i would attent another meeting so I can meet this shaykh amd he said other people will take some kind of oath of allegiance or something. It’s difficult to explain for me but am i dealing with a cult or something? I didn’t want to cause offence or something so i did not ask too many questions because i could notice some brothers were explaining to others how everyone needs a shaykh to guide them. I was like ameen ameen the whole time but i wanted to leave as quickly as i could
