Is a Yemeni Muslim in America likely to oppose representational art in his home?

I only know a little about Islam, but as I understand it, images made by humans depicting real things are not approved of? If this is true, does that also mean imaginary things?

I am asking because I would like to give a painting to a dear friend of mine, but I would not want to cause him any conflict. He was raised here, and his wife I would say is a bit more observant/devout as she is a recent arrival from Yemen.

Thank you for your advice. (The painting is of a building and flowers on an imaginary planet with three moons, if that matters)
