AOA, I want to talk about the Ayah of Surah Ahzab Ayah No 33. Firstly, the Ayah Goes:
' Remain in your homes, and do not display (your) beauty as it used to be displayed in the days of earlier ignorance; and establish Salāh, and pay Zakāh, and obey Allah and His messenger. Allah only intends to keep (all sorts of) filth away from you, O members of the family (of the prophet), and to make you pure through a perfect purification'
What I am focusing on is the first part 'Remain in your homes'. PLEASE SEE, The Ayah may be addressed to the Mothers of the Believers specifically, but the Scholars have said this also applies to all Muslim Women aswell. So don't waste time writing 'Nah Bro, its only for the Mothers of the believers'. I am not gonna go into details about its generality.
Second of All, I am a Brother, so don't mistake me as a Sister :). But I really care deeply about Women's rights. BUT, I AM NOT A FEMINIST/FEMINAZI, I REPEAT x1000, I AM NOT A FEMINIST/FEMINAZI. I care about Women's right to STUDY AND THEIR RIGHT TO WORK. Yeah, I firmly 100% believe in that right. And it's one of the reasons I hate the Taliban, though I am not gonna waste my time here arguing about Taliban. And I am not gonna go into why in the world do I care about that right.
Anyways, I am here to talk about this Ayah. So last night, I took out a Tafsir from my cupboard just to read, and that Tafsir was Tafheem ul Quran by Moulana Maududi.
I deliberately went to this Ayah and one paragraph explaining this Ayah really bothered me. It made me a bit frustrated and angry. Here's the paragraph which is the gist of my post:
'In the presence of such a clear and express command of the Qur'an, it is not at all permissible that the Muslim women should seek membership of the councils and parliaments; that they should run after social activities outside the house; that they should work side by side with men in the government offices, should get education along with boys in the colleges, serve as nurses in the male wards of hospitals, should be employed as hostesses in the airplanes and rail cars, and should be sent abroad for education and training'
What I have a problem with is 'that they should run after social activities outside the house', 'should get education along with boys in the colleges' and most importantly 'Be sent abroad for education and training'.
Look, I know Free Mixing is not permissible. The mixed Universities and Schools are not ideal, but this system is established all over the world. Its near impossible to avoid it. It's hard. It will take a lot of time to break this system down. I believe, and a lot of Scholars have said too, that in this climate, it will be permissible to study in mixed Universities provided unnecessary mixing and talking is avoided.
If you believe its still not permissible, then you are entitled to your own opinion. JUST DO NOT BELITTLE ME FOR IT IN THIS POST. Let me have my own opinion.
I have a few questions about this: 1) Do the words 'Stay in your houses' are command as in like an obligation? or does it just mean that staying in homes is better and more superior for Women? e.g I have seen even Islamqa saying that AS A PRINCIPLE, they should stay at home and in some other fatwas, 'it's better for them to stay home'
2) The whole problem with all this is I don't know why I am caring about the explanation of Maududi here? I already don't care about the opinion of RedPillers being against Women's education, but Idk why am I even giving a shit about it? Can someone please help my mind get rid of caring about all this? How can I stop caring about such opinions?
