Basically title. I'm a Christian, at least in a very loose sense of the term. And ever since I was able to understand historical events I've been told by family to not really seek out or converse with any Muslims. Now that I've grown and looking at US policy, I can say that the US has no business in the Mid-East as my honest opinion.
This conviction opened an opportunity for me. I'd like to know more about Muslim culture. The state I live in doesn't have much of any Muslim community save for the isolated family.
Some specific questions:
- Christianity has many versions of the bible. Is the same true for the Koran? if so, what version is best for a "new to faith" style? (I'm not looking to convert, I'm simply looking for ease of understanding)
- Are there different sects of Islam? Christianity is fractured into hundreds of denominations, I wonder if the same is for Islam.
- Are there any notable differences between cultures and how they worship? Christian example is You have the Northern Baptists, who are more conservative and melancholy. And the Southern Baptists, who are much more lively and "full of spirit". With the link between the two being they strongly emphasize the ritual of Baptism. Are there similar examples in Islam?
I'm sure I have more questions but I gotta fish for what's appropriate. Thank you.
