Trying to remember a story about the consequences of taking revenge in your own hands

I remember very vaguely of this story about a person who wanted to take revenge (or something in that area) on an individual, but the results of such actions affected those around him negatively. But that's the vague jist of it. At the end, he was shown the benefits of not trying to take actions in his own hands as justice will be served to those people who the individual the person wanted to take revenge on harmed.

Any stories relating to this scenario let me know. I forgot it but remember it being mentioned multiple times.
