The previous prophets had a duty to believe in the Messenger of Allah when he comes to them, obey his words, and help him. In the absence of the Prophets, this responsibility will remain with their Ummah till the Day of Resurrection.

Allah Ta'ala says, "(Remember) And when Allah took a promise from the Prophets, Surely I have given you the Book (i.e. the knowledge of the Book of the heavens) and Hikmah. But when A Messenger comes to you confirming what you have, then you must believe in him, and you will surely help him. He (Allah Ta'ala further) said, 'Did you accept (my words) and accept my (given) big responsibility?' They (the prophets) said, ‘We have accepted’. He (Allah Ta'ala) said, Then you testify (in this matter). And I am with you the witnesses".

[Surah al-Imran, verse 81]
