So for some background I am a Roman Catholic and I want to get some clarification on what you Muslims believe about generally
- Are there any writings that were around soon after Jesus's death which held the beliefs that are similar to how Muslims see Jesus as a prophet?
- Seeing as Muslims view Jesus's message was corrupted were the first generation Christians (like the apostles) free from corruption or did Jesus's message get skewed from the get go right after his Ascension (I think Muslims believe Jesus ascended correct me if I am wrong)
- If question 2 was answered that they were free from corruption what motive did God (Allah) have in sending many of the 12 Apostles around the ancient world to proselytize? was it his will if so shouldn't there have been one Christian community that would have followed the law of Allah correctly and crossed out the need of prophet Muhammad?
- Do your holy books the Koran and others include the same Old Testament as Christians? (I think you Muslims have the story of Adam and Eve it would be appreciated if you could list down books that are the same or different)
- Do you believe all of the New Testament is corrupted/fabricated or are some parts free from corruption? I ask this particularly because Catholics use the verses (Matthew 16:18-19 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”) to justify the succession of Peter to the Pope and the legitimacy of the Catholic Church. So this verse particularly how the gates of hell should not prevail against it kind of eliminates the possibility of God giving up on his Christian revelation and sending Prophet Muhammad.
- What do you feel about Islam being spread by the sword? I ask this particularly because when I ask my father about questions regarding my faith and when I bring up Islam he often counters Islam by saying it's a dangerous religion that was spread by the sword whilst Christianity is all about love. Now I often come to see the flaws in my father's claim as throughout Christianity's history it has been filled with violence but often it is outright condemned as a bad thing that happened or is justified like how Christians would say the Crusades were a retaliation against Islamic expansion. I'm still coming in terms and learning about Christian violence in the past particularly about how heresy was often punished by burning at the stake and the forced conversion of pagan Saxons by Charlemagne which I see as being wrong. So for Muslims how do you view Islamic expansion was it a good thing? Did it involve forceful conversion? Were then things like Jizya honest and justified method of converting people? If you do believe Islamic expansion was a good thing why don't Islamic nations attempt to expand and convert non-Muslim countries in the modern age?
