I was talking with a muslim recently. I myself come from a muslim family but my parents are not religious and I am trying to understand more about Islam, since there are many things I don't understand and I want to understand better. I was talking with this muslim about the loss of culture, language, and tradition in the world and how I believe it is a terrible thing and how we should try to preserve some dying traditions and languages. He said that while he sees it as a problem, he does not question it since it is God's will. This kind of surprised me. I then said, atheism is on the rise in many nations, and surly God would not want that. I suggested this perhaps is the work of Shaytan. He then said even what Shaytan does is the will of God. This confused me a lot. Shaytan I though works against God and influences people to sin, so how can Shaytan's actions also be part of God's will. Shaytan strays people away from God. Also, if we were to change the way the world is going by preserving culture as I suggested, how would that be going against God's will? Wouldn't everything we do, no matter what, be part of God's will? This person did not claim to be an expert on Islam, but he did appear quite religious.
In all honesty, the viewpoint that we shouldn't try to change or question things about how the world works kind of bothered me. Would trying to preserve culture and tradition in the face of the modern world be working against God? Surely this cannot be the correct Islamic view. There are clearly many muslims who try to change things and question many things in the world. Any help with this would be much appreciated.
Further questions you don't have to answer but you can if you would like:
Could God wipe Shaytan out of existence if he wanted? Why does he not do this? Is it because he keeps Shaytan to test us?
If God knows what will happen in the future, why does he test us if he knows the outcome? Isn't it necessary that he doesn't know what we do, because that is the whole purpose of a test. You test things to see outcomes you are not certain of.
I promise these questions come from a place of wanting to understand. Not from a place of anti-Islam. These are just real questions I have and I am curious about and I really appreciate anyone trying to help.
