- A number of users on a Reddit Muslim discord have complained about censorship and bans for questioning LGBT and just citing some pretty plain vanilla aspects of Islam. The bans recently centered around /r/PublicFreakOut based on month old comments, and for instance would result in a ban from the sub without reason, and logging into an alt (against reddit ToS but something everyone does) results in an ‘alternative’ account ban even if the first ban was reversed by Reddit.
- A lot of mods with wayward fasiq and deviant qualifications.
Younger Muslim women, at risk women, should avoid /r/Hijabis forinstance
- Context: on a muslim discord we have had multiple men and three sisters get their entire accounts suspended banned for minor infractions. Almost all of them held traditional views, against LGBT fahishat etc and in the sisters cases had posted to /r/Hijabis before their views calling against feminism and LGBT movements had been taken down by mods there.
Three different brothers, and two sisters, got deleted and had their accounts perma suspended for taking by name (not exactly against reddit content policy but discretion can make it so) two mods on /r/Hijabis. They weren’t mentioned with a /u/ notification, but by name. I wont repeat that mistake here as Reddit admins can using, wishy ToS interpretation, ban you:
1) of whom who takes down anything anti-LGBT and
2) Another who has a trans sibling. Neither of these positions is ‘wrong’ per se, by Reddit, even if it is by Islam, but these two mods did a good bit to not be transparent about this. Deleting post history. I have removed any name or info that could lead to them, out of respect to Reddit’s rules, but if you know these spaces, you know who they are.
For instance their deleting comments, doxing a brother (sharing his post history to a Reddit groupchat where someone doxed him and was suspended for it by Reddit admins) for pointing the above out, mass reporting off Reddit using discord (have screenshots of this), misusing moderatorship. At risk vulnerable youth/Muslimas (about their hijab, Islam) should not go to such predatory and misleading subreddits.
Girls are coming to these places with insecurities about their faith and are being lied to and indoctrinated into compeltely fasiq/anti-Islamic positions.
- To the moderators of this sub or other subs, what sort of pressures have you faced in the last year or two on Reddit’s new ‘hate speech’ rules. On on the discord (not in the chat but we have his name when he was here), said on one of the top three Muslim subreddits on Reddit that many are under pressure to censor many views from black lives matter opposition to any mention of LGBT. Have you seen moderators unfairly replaced? Bizarrely, the moderator list is hidden on /r/Islam now?
