I wish I could greet you with the utmost reverence and respect that I could, but simple words - pixels on a screen could not express how I grieve for what is happening to you [collectively.]
I have been an agnostic for many years and I've met my share of people from all backgrounds. Racists, islamophobes, Muslims, Christians and so on, people all over the spectrum of beliefs and backgrounds. If there is one thing I could say from my limited experience (in the capacity of a very pro ethnic-diverse university and those whom I have worked under, I have never met a muslim who treated me with any disrespect. Every conversation, passing or otherwise has always been positive.
When I see what is happening in Israel right now, I am drawn to tears. I am of the American breed who believes that everyone should be permitted to practice their religion. What is happening to people of the Islamic faith is horrid.
Then there's what is happening in France, some of the posters I saw as propaganda made me sick. Islamophobia makes me sick.
There isn't anything I can do; I'm tired of feeling helpless. The only thing that I can do is just send this message in a bottle and hope that it helps somehow.
I know it won't help you right now to fix your problems, but my aim is to just make your day a little brighter:
You are a human being. Regardless of what clothes you wear, how you wear them, who you pray to or how you pray, I care for you. I value your lives and your beliefs. I don't agree with what is happening to you. I wish I could say more...
I'll stop now so I won't ramble. Because I will. If you need to talk, I'll listen.
