I was talking with someone about how alcohol is illegal in Saudi Arabia but not Germany, and how the muslims who live in Germany have a way tougher time not drinking alcohol and then it hit me, is there any virtue in following the commands of God if you don't have a choice?

Some people could argue that even if alcohol is illegal you can still get some if you really want, so it's still a choice, but the point is that if a muslim drinks alcohol in a country where alcohol is legal there will be no bad consequences, nothing will happen, but if that person is discovered in a country were alcohol is illegal there could be very serious consequences, so the point still stands that the first person has a lot more freedom to sin, and thus not sinning is actually a challenge

What do you think?
