As Salam wa Alaykum,

to me the hardest aspect of Ramadan is sleep. Ive always been dealing with insomnia (it kinda runs in our family) but outside of this period I can control it to some extent.

However with Ramadan and having to wake up in the middle of night, it is literally impossible for me to have a decent sleep schedule. Sure, when I was younger I could (barely) function with 3h of sleep/no sleep at all, but as I'm getting older it is literally impossible to perform even the most basic tasks.

What happens is that I sleep for like 20 mns before Iftar, wake up completely knocked out to eat and pray, try to go to sleep, toss and turn in my bed, sleep for 2-3 (4 if i'm really lucky) hours, wake up again for Shur, cant sleep again and then it's time to attend classes until the end of the day where the cycle repeats itself.

By interrupting my sleep like so when I'm already struggling i'm bound to have trouble falling back asleep.

So i've come up with the idea of skipping either Shur or Iftar to be able to sleep without interruption in a way that wont disturb me (yes I'm desperate to the point where i'm willing to trade eating and drinking for good sleep) but i've been told by many people that shur and iftar must absolutely not be skipped. What do I do? Sleeping that awfully is starting to affect my mental health, my grades and how well im doing in my part time job.

Barakallahu fikum for reading until here!!
