In the East, some practices seem to be in dispute.
Of the Chinese folk of old, surely the kow-tow would have been impermissible unless the alternative was death.
Of the Japanese folk of the farther East, bowing is a prevalent practice amongst them, and there allegedly is a condemnation against it, even when it is used as a gesture of politeness.
What interpretations support or come in opposition to this opinion?
Would it be preferable to the shaking of hands with the opposite gender?
