My family believes that memorial services should be held on the 3rd, 10th day, 40th day, 6 months, and 1 year after death. I have looked for narrations from the hadith but I could only find that 3 days of mourning is permissible in islam and everything else is bid'ah. I believe that all guidance is available in the Quran and Hadith, and if it is not mentioned there it should not be done. Is my thinking correct? What is permissible with regards to mourning and memorial services?
