I remember sitting in class one time, and a visiting teacher was asked a question regarding a local community with a shaykh that ruled in particular way regarding a pillar of Islam. Because the questioner mentioned the other community and thus it's shaykh, the teacher of the class said he won't answer that question, because that other shaykh wasn't there to defend himself and his position, and that would be thulm(oppression).

One of the important things when it comes to knowledge is adaab, having manners, Allah grant and increase us in both. As we know, Imam Malik's RA mother RA reportedly told him to go to one of his teachers and take from the teachers manners before his knowledge.

Another teacher taught me that every teacher will have mistakes, and if you keep leaving this teacher or that whenever you find a mistake here or there, your teacher will end up being Shaytan. You're gonna leave them, because all your teachers have mistakes. The only person free from mistakes when it comes to revelation was the Prophet SA.

The above doesn't mean it's a free-for-all for people to make mistakes, and major ones at that(another Prophet after Muhammad SA for example). But there are people who spent literally decades dedicating their lives to learning and teaching the deen, and learning from actual scholars, who are in the valid realm of difference of opinion, and people may even simply have to an extent, a right to their own opinion. Sometimes they actually have an actual mistake, but at other times they can simply misspeak - some speak/teach a lot - and/or could have been actually misunderstood, which I gather tends to happen from certain things I've seen others mention.

These hit and run youtube videos are some of the worst forms of that thulm/oppression my teacher mentioned. I saw one and like 30-60 seconds perhaps is from some particular teacher in question speaking, and literally the next 20-30 minutes is clips of all kinds of people apparently contradicting the person in question in the video. Even that appears to be misapplied. That person in question isn't there to defend themselves, and that - what I learned from my teacher - is thulm(oppression), and simply should not be done. There is a proper methodology and adab to disagreement and the rights of teachers must be observed. Unless we are speaking of like nation of Islam or a clear group that is out of Islam - most of these videos I've seen are defunct and nullified just based on their approach alone, and perhaps show nothing but the lack of knowledge, training, and/or adab of the person posting/sharing/creating such a video.

Allah protect us from all forms of oppression and forms of committing oppression, ameen.
