I have been reading a bunch of these claims on r/Islam and elsewhere from both Muslims and non-Muslims. So in a few short points I will show this is not the case.

1: There are various principles utilized when doing exegesis of the Qu'ran. One method is to use other verses in the Qu'ran to understand the verse at hand.

2: There are a few instances in the Qu'ran where it mentions Allah's face and hands:

(28:88) - Do not call out to any other god beside God, for there is no god but Him. Everything will perish except His Face. His is the Judgement and to Him you shall all be brought back.

(38:75) - God said, ‘Iblis, what prevents you from bowing down to the man I have made with My own hands? Are you too high and mighty?’

Now how do we understand these verses? Do we take them literally or metaphorically?

3: Without any evidence there is no reason to interpret these verses as metaphorical. If that was the case, this would open the door to interpreting any given concept in the Qu'ran as metaphorical ie. Heaven, hell, the beast etc.

4: There are very clear verses that show Allah is incomparable to anything.

(42:11) - the Creator of the heavens and earth.’ He made mates for you from among yourselves––and for the animals too––so that you may multiply. There is nothing like Him: He is the All Hearing, the All Seeing.

(112:4) - No one is comparable to Him.

5: Therefore, given the evidence above it is clear that Allah's attributes include his face and hands however these are not like the faces and hands of Allah's creation (humans, animals). It is necessary to state that there is nothing we can imagine that would be comparable to Allah.

6: The companions and the Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him understood this concept very clearly. How do we know this? Given all the thousands upon thousands of hadith in the literature none ever mention someone asking the Prophet or the Prophet himself telling the companions on how to think about these verses. They understood given the evidence in the Qu'ran and their own fitrah that Allah can not be anthropomorphic.

Finally, I will like to say that this is most commonly stated by christian missionaries. And to them I say, disproving Islam does not lead to the conclusion that Christianity is true. That's a fallacy. And you failed to disprove Islam regardless.

If I believe a triangle has 4 sides and another person believes a square has 3 sides and I prove him wrong by showing him that a square has 4 sides in actuality. It doesn't follow that my belief is correct.

As for Muslims who try say this, please learn your religion from actual scholars before talking.
