I became more religious over the past few months and my parents decided to lecture me. They aren't very religious, they care about my safety, but I feel as if they were just making conspiracy theories. They advised me not to go on Islamic websites and then they told me some conspiracy theories about how I'll get hacked, turned into an extremist, get spied on and tracked, etc. In the future when I tell them I don't want a girlfriend, but rather to find a practicing muslim wife after I settle my life first, I can't even imagine their reaction to that. When I told them the websites I visit are trustworthy they asked me how do I know, and I didn't say anything because I don't know. My only evidence is that I feel that they are trustworthy. My mom barely knows anything about the internet and yet she tells me she's experienced and knows what's going on. Then they took some time to tell me how "those bearded men" (scholars) are liers. Claiming they talk about Islam and how to be good muslims but behind the curtains they are bad people with multiple wives.... And when I ask for proof, they just tell me to trust them and that they know. I'm asking you, how to tell if a website or a scholar is trustworthy. How do I prove that a website like Quran.com and many others (which would be nice if you were to recommend) are trustworthy?
