What are the Orthodox rulings on how Muslims should conduct themselves outside Muslim-majority countries?

I understand the provisions are relatively tolerant for when living with other People of the Book, though I don't know the details. But I don't know what the rulings say at all about majority polytheistic countries like India or Japan, Atheist countries like the Soviet Union or China, or countries dominated by a lot of weird heretical sects like Mormons, Seventh-Day Adventists, the Moonies, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc, like in, say, Uganda.

Is there a consensus or does it depend on the Legal School and/or Marji'a?
