Salamu Alaykum.
Is there any utility in defining emotion and empathy romantically, vs defining them materially? In humans, love of ones brother and neighbor is nothing more than a biological and societal utility which allows for humans to cooperate, trade, and interact within each other’s best interests. Is it wrong to just see it as that and nothing more? What we call romantic love is merely the release of chemicals and pheromones in organisms which promotes mating, either for pleasure or for reproduction, or both. Why is there the need to see love and it’s promotion as something “beautiful” or as the moral maxim, or as something ethereal even? Is it preferable in society to be “cold” like this? Is it immoral to see the world like this? Why or why not?
