My second Quran (perhaps a stupid question)

I finally got a second copy of the Quran. My wife threw away my first copy.

I have heard that you should not write in it or highlight it -- please keep in mind that almost my whole life I've been an "evangelical christian" so underlining, journaling, and highlight is a part of faithful study and prayer. My understanding is that the only "true" Quran is one in Arabic so if my copy is in English, is it still disrespectful to write notes and underline or highlight passages?
