Salam!
My boyfriend is Muslim, I am not. I’m open to it and interested in learning about it, but my local Mosques are closed because of covid and I don’t move to his Muslim country for another 6 weeks.
My question isn’t so much about Islam as a religion as it is about Islam as a culture. I’m from the West so my understanding of Islamic culture is very limited and largely negative, but I want to learn.
I finished The Kite Runner yesterday and it was amazing. I’m interested in books like this, that talk about customs and values and culture in the MENA regions. The Kite Runner I understand is just fiction and it honestly raised more questions than it answered, but I would like to read more books that give me more insight into the Muslim worldview and perspectives. Fiction and non-fiction are both great!
Shokran!
p.s. I’m not interested in feedback about the validity or sincerity of my relationship, as people tend to express a lot of internalized or perceived negative views of Muslim men when they find out I’m dating one, or that he’s dating a kafir (as I’ve been called). He’s a good man and I don’t him or my relationship insulted with people who assume the worst. 🙏🏻
