Probably you would not expect a prominent western politician like Alfred Von Kremer to say: "Islamic jurisprudence is the greatest legal system in the history of the world".

However the contribution of Islamic law has been massively important to the development of the western nations particularly after the renaissance.

When we delve deeply into European laws we found that Islamic jurisprudence and its philosophy started to influence Europe particularly in Spain in the 13th century, when the king of Castile, Alfonso X commissioned the writing of "Siete Partidas" or as known in English "Seven-Part Code", between 1256 and 1265 AD. The writers of the Seven-Part Code utilised the Islamic jurisprudence particularly from the Maliki Mazhab which was commonly used in Al-Andalus.

Similarly, Gustave Le Bon in his book "La civilisation des Arabes" mentioned that the European emperor Napoleon Bonaparte after invading Egypt in 1801 AD, he ordered to translate several books from Islamic jurisprudence, particularly from the Maliki Mazhab to the French language, like "الشرح الكبير على مختصر خليل". According to Le Bon, French legislators would use these Islamic jurisprudence references to write the famous "Napoleonic Code", officially known, the Civil Code of the French, the code established under the French Consulate in 1804 and still in force till this day.

The French historian Louis Pierre Eugène Amélie Sédillot in his book "Histoire Des Arabes" goes further to confirm that the similarities between the French civil code and the Maliki Mazhab has reached up to 90%.
